Do You Need a Life Hack?

Life hacks are popping up everywhere. I’ve seen them in magazines, on television and on the internet. Have you heard of them? Wondering what I am talking about?

A life hack is a tool or technique that makes some aspect of one’s life easier or more efficient. If you do an internet search you will find tons of information. To save you that task, I’ve included a link with 100 hacks to make you more productive:

Here are three life hacks from the list that I already do:

#6) Start a maintenance day. Group all of your “maintenance tasks” (laundry, groceries, cleaning, watering plants, etc.) together on one day of the week so you have more time to focus on higher-level tasks the rest of the week.

#20) Live by the two-minute rule. The two-minute rule (from David Allen’s Getting Things Done system) says that when a task will take you less than two minutes, just do it – don’t add it to your to-do list or capture it for later.

#91) Respond to your email in batches. Schedule a few times throughout the day to deal with email instead of dealing with messages as they come in. This compartmentalizes email into a few chunks of time in your schedule.

Here are three life hacks from the list that I am going to start doing:

#18) Work on Pomodoro time. The “Pomodoro Technique” is a time-management technique where you work on just one activity for 25 minutes, then take a five-minute break. It’s incredibly effective.

#34) Drink 16oz of water right after you wake up. Right after you wake up every morning, drink at least 16oz (500mL) of water. Your body just went eight hours without any fluids, and is likely dehydrated.

#65) Quit multitasking. Multitasking is terrible for your focus and productivity, and it makes you more prone to errors, affects your memory, and even adds stress to your life.

Skim through the list and find three life hacks you can implement. Yes, it is a list that you can skim through so don’t worry that you need a lot of time. Small changes can make a big difference. What three life hacks are you going to do? Please comment below!

  1. Life hacks are a fabulous way to save a little or a lot of time! Of course, with anything, you have to get in the HABIT of doing them! 😀
Did you know that there is a difference between multitasking and switch tasking? One is OK and efficient, the other is not. Doing laundry while answering email is not a problem. Writing a blog post while talking on the phone IS!

  2. I use and love it. I need to try Rescuetime and stop multitasking. In fact, while reading the list, I saw "Learn how to touch type" and next thing I know, I'm taking an online typing test to check my speed. Focus much??? Thanks for the info!
